About the Tilefish Archive
This website is a public research database and archive of publicly available images and videos of tilefishes in the genera Hoplolatilus and Malacanthus. Records are organized to support species identification and research into appearance, behavior, habitat, and documented observation locations.
Original sources and creator rights
Each record identifies and links to its original publisher whenever that source remains available. Full source media remains private by default.
YouTube videos are shown only through YouTube's official privacy-enhanced embedded player and only when the publisher allows embedding. Playback comes directly from YouTube. When embedding is unavailable, visitors receive a reduced thumbnail and a link to YouTube instead.
Other publisher-hosted videos may be shown when the publisher provides a directly playable preview and expressly permits sharing under applicable license terms. For example, Undersea Productions previews are streamed unchanged from the publisher under its CC BY-NC-ND usage policy. The Archive does not download, proxy, edit, crop, or store those video or poster files. Each record credits the publisher, links to the original listing and license, and depends on the publisher continuing to make the preview available.
Creative Commons and CC0 images may also be opened in a larger archive viewer when their licenses permit this use. The viewer preserves the creator attribution and links to the applicable license. Images with NoDerivatives terms are shown without archive cropping or zoom transformations.
iNaturalist observations are indexed one photo at a time because individual photos within the same observation can have different licenses. Each record retains its observation and photo links, the attribution supplied by iNaturalist, and the photo's license. All-rights-reserved photos follow the thumbnail-only policy described below.
All-rights-reserved images and other non-embeddable media remain limited to small reduced-resolution navigational thumbnails and original-source links. These references are not intended to replace the original work.
Copyright and reuse rights remain with the respective creators and rights holders. Source links, available creator attribution, and license information are retained with each record.

Submit the original source link along with any known species identification, creator credit, location, and wild or aquarium context. Unknown details are welcome and will be marked as uncertain rather than guessed. Every submission remains private until it is reviewed and approved.
